Casa de cinco Hermanos

Walking in our region

Walking routes in Spain are surprisingly beautiful. There are a lot of grand routes in all regions of Spain. These Gran Recorrido’s are marked white and red. From these GR’s Pequeño Recorrido’s (little routes) are marked white and yellow.

To make these routes fit for walking by our guests we are exploring as much routes as we can to upload them into GPS-tracks. We hope to be of service to our future guests, by uploading these routes in their GPS device (free of charge) or letting them
a GPS device for walking these beautiful routes.

We have placed tracks and photo’s of the walks
(except the ones around the house for quietness)
on Google Earth. Placemarks are on the right side of
this page.

To display the routes search in the left-hand lower corner of Google Earth in "Layers." As you open
the folder "Gallery" one can select the layer "Wikiloc". Then you can see all sorts of icons for hikers and cyclists in our region. When you open these routes,
you can view and display them in Google Earth.

In the area near Casa de cinco Hermanos we have already explored several routes. People who like to
walk in the nude can do this on these routes.
In Spain naturism is allowed everywhere (see the
button ‘naturism’). When avoiding populated area’s
there will be no problem walking in the nude.

About 20 kilometer from our house, we found a beautiful walking trail. This route leads along the Rio Chícamo. For the most part the river is a protected nature reserve. It is however allowed to recreation and walking. The route is approximately 12 kilometers long and is easy to walk, even for less experienced hikers.

Canal de la Rambla Salada is a truly amazing tour. It is a route that begins along an old irrigation canal. After a walk over and along old aqueducts the route leads to a stream which has a saltwater wellspring. The effect of this salt water flow is downright fascinating. The water is saltier than the Mediterranean. The salt pushes off along the banks of the stream and forms an almost magical landscape of green, red and yellow rocks to contrast the white rock salt. Experienced hikers and climbers may continue into the cliff where some steep slopes are to be climbed by chains, ropes and stairs. Less experienced hikers can, go back through a loop along the stream to the start of the walk.

The Sierra del Carche (the nearby natural reserve) has many Barranco’s. A barranco is a gorge sloping down
a mountain. When it rains heavily water runs down through these barranco’s. Many of these barranco’s
are accessible for walking. We have explored several barranco’s now and we will continue to do so in the
near future.

Across the valley we have explored a number of routes. These routes are much easier to walk because they miss the steep slopes. These walks have magnificent views
